Cable dog run
It is possible to put up a cable dog run but this is not the most recommended. I had a cable perimeter fence on one of my dog runs but then my dog found out that he could chew on it and get the plastic coating off of the cable.
The best kinds of dog runs to use are those made out of 100% commercial grade steel perimeter fences that have been galvanized to protect them against rust.
No matter what size dog you have there is a steel dog run available for you and all that you need to do is get online and make a search for the one that is perfect for your dog and your situation.
If you have a smaller dog be sure to get a dog run perimeter fence that will not allow your dog to put any part of its body through any holes or openings as if any part of your dog's body becomes stuck in the dog run fence it could result in serious injury to your dog.
For this reason allliving in runs or enclosures should be taught never to place or any part of their body through the openings in the dog run. If your dog does become caught in the dog run fencing the first thing that you must do is keep it calm. Dogs that are stuck tend to panic and this can lead to injury to the dog or it could even bite you in its panicked state so be sure to approach the situation with care.
